NZ websites fall down on data privacy

Commissioner Marie Shroff made the comments in response to a global survey of sites, including New Zealand examples, which found a large proportion had no privacy policy, an inadequate policy, poor contact information or other concerns.

The Privacy Commissioner says New Zealand websites and apps need to do a better job of telling users what they are doing with people's information and how secure that information is after nearly a third were found to have flawed privacy measures.

They included websites or apps for schools, legal firms, and retailers.

The Global Privacy Enforcement Network sweep of websites checked the transparency of 393 New Zealand sites.

It looked at whether a new user could read the privacy policy and have a fair idea about whether personal information was being collected, what it would be used for, and whether it would be shared with third parties.

The survey found that 125 sites or apps did not have a privacy policy or an equivalent - a finding which Ms Shroff said was disappointing.

Man shot in head

At about 12:55 pm today police and ambulance received multiple calls from people in the area of Kupe Street Orakei, reporting that a man had been shot and had been seen running from the area bleeding from a head wound. Witnesses described the weapon involved as looking like an assault rifle.

Armed police cordoned the area and commenced a search for the victim and the shooter.
The victim was located near the scene of the incident. He was taken to Auckland hospital by ambulance suffering from a wound to his temple.

Enquiries in the area revealed the name of person suspected of being responsible for the shooting, and police identified a house in Kupe Street  as a possible address for the suspect. The house was surrounded and searched by Police however the suspect was not located.

Enquiries will continue to find the shooter.  The victim has been checked by medical staff at the hospital and his injuries are not believed to be serious.

Dream 02/06/13

Hhmmm….
Mimpi saya kali ini agak aneh. Saya bertemu dengan dia dan meminta ijin keluarganya. Kami pun bermain di rumahnya. Tiba-tiba saya sudah berada di tempat yang berbeda dan saya melihat dua orang sosok pria yang sedang memeggang handycam dan berjalan menuju rumahnya. Saya pun dengan seketika berlari menuju rumahnya. Setelah tiba, saya pun mengabari ayanya dia. Ayahnya pun berkata, “biarkan saja, mereka hanya ingin mencari informasi tentang saya dan (menyebutkan nama istrinya).” Namun entah mengapa ketika melihat sosok dua orang tersebut, ayahnya dia langsung menyuruh menutup seluruh jendela dan berkata kepada dia agar segera masuk.

Suasananya pun tiba-tiba terganti. Kami berada disebuah ruang dengan kaca besar sebagai dinding untuk melihat pemandangan diluar, karena pada saat itu kami berada ditingkat yang cukup tinggi. Sesosok makhluk pun muncul dihadapan kami. Kami terhentak kaget, menysul suara ibunya yang berkata bahwa kita harus menghilangkan. Kami kebingungan bagaimana caranya menghilang. Tiba-tiba ibunya mengangkat handuk yang ternyata kalau digunakan maka penggunanya tidak akan terlihat. Dia dan ibunya pun memaki sebuah handuk, menutupi kepala hingga ujung kaki, kemudian mereka tak terlihat. Saya dan ayahnya pun memakai sebuah handuk dan kami hilang. Saya pun terbangun dari tidur saya.
